What We Do

  • We celebrate our heritage and promote our culture in our local communities through cultural events and performances.
  • We collaborate with KUDOC, a charitable organization in Bui Division, to sponsor orphans at various elementary schools in Bui.
  • We responded to the Regina Pacis College fire disaster by raising $6000 in less than two weeks to purchase new mattresses, blankets, bed sheets, and school supplies for 124 students.
  • We have established a collaborative relationship with the Smithsonian Museum of African History in Washington DC to promote Bui Arts and Culture.

Recognizing and Promoting Academic Talent in BUI

BFU-USA Scholarship of Academic Excellence, 2016/2017 Edition

The application period for the BFU-USA Scholarship of Academic Excellence is now open! The application period will be open from SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2016 - JANUARY 15TH, 2017. This year, we are adding new scholarships for O'Level Applicants, as well as a Recognition Awards for Academic Institutions.

Eligibility Criteria for All Student Applications

  • Must be of Bui Division Heritage (i.e. must have at least one parent with Bui Division Heritage)
  • Provide short and concise answers to ALL of the following 3 questions (1 page max):
    • Name 7 Fons (official names) currently reigning in Bui Division, and their Fondoms
    • Name an influential person of Bui heritage whom you admire and tell us why
    • Who is the longest reigning Fon (official name) in Bui Division and how long was their reign?

GCE A-Level Applicants

  • Must have an A grade in at least 7 subjects at the GCE O-Level
  • Science Majors must have an A grade in at least 3 subjects at the GCE A-Level
  • Arts Majors must have an A grade in at least 2 subjects at the GCE A-Level
  • Must have passed the GCE A-Level in the August 2016 GCE release
  • Must write an essay not exceeding two pages with single line spacing on the following subject:
    • Describe your most meaningful personal achievements and how they relate to your future goals.
    • Each essay will be graded based on grammar, coherence of thought, logical sequence of ideas and presentation, originality, relevance of ideas expressed to the essay topic, and overall strength of the essay.

GCE A-Level Awards

Science Majors

  • 1st Prize: $1500 (One Thousand Five Hundred US Dollars)
  • 2nd Prize: $1000 (One Thousand US Dollars)
  • 3rd Prize: $500 (Five Hundred US Dollars)
  • 4th Prize: $500 (Five Hundred US Dollars)

Arts Majors

  • 1st Prize: $1500 (One Thousand Five Hundred US Dollars)

GCE O-Level Applicants

  • Must have an A grade in at least 7 subjects at the GCE O-Level

GCE O-Level Awards

  • 13 Scholarship Awards worth $200 each (Two Hundred US Dollars)

Academic Institutions

  • Must be located in Bui Division and must have better than 90% pass rating for the 2015 or 2016 GCE O-Level session OR a 90% or higher pass rating for the 2016 GCE A-Level session only.

Recognition Awards

  • 5 recognition awards worth $250 each (Two Hundred and Fifty US Dollars)
